¡bruja! me tienes bien cogida.
Ahora está echada ahí fuera… esperándome.

Be Badass Everyday

Nature reminds me of my nature. I can feel my riveting strength, my unruly blood, my fierce fairytale genetics. Mo cuishle. It is translated from Irish Gaelic as "my darling, my blood". Twining threads grow between the earth and me, a herstory is being told, sung, danced, rolled out, whispered, sprung, spellbound. The she-earth and the me-gnome instinctually start weaving at first touch a miscellaneous tapestry, 'woolgathering and wildcrafting', 'creating cordage' in words of dear fay (si)star Asia Suler. My blood instantly becomes magnetised by the earth's magnetic field, my immune system forgets the worries and fussing, and dances freely with the rays of sun. Life is good. In times of basic witches, be badass everyday.

Woolgathering and Wildcrafting •´*¨`*•✿

Maybe it’s the fact that I was on vacation. Or perhaps it was the long stretches of time without any WiFi, but I think it might just be Ireland, with its hawthorn hedgerows and impossible green fields and sheep with black feet who nod at you as you go. There is something about this land that just calls you to woolgather.

Woolgathering has long been one of my favorite terms. It’s synonymous for the act of daydreaming, the gathering of thoughts as one might collect tufts of wool lost here in there within the heather. When I first started my blog over seven years ago. I named it Woolgathering and Wildcrafting, because it seemed apt for the textures my mind most loves to explore.

Going to Ireland was a return for the woolgatherer in me. As a child I was often off in my own world, unfocused and libal to stare off into the dreamtime. When I entered adulthood I learned, slowly, how to hone my attention, focus my will and accomplish. And it’s been wonderfully fruitful. But a large part of my spirit always seems to ache for this, the whimsy, and the invisible harvest, of woolgathering in the inner landscapes of my mind.

The beautiful thing about Ireland is that you can literally woolgather as you daydream. Over the green hills and fields you can find bits of wool, left by peaceful sheep in their pastoring. During my time in Ireland I gathered small handfuls of wool from the places that felt most powerful to me. I found tufts on the bodies of hawthorn in full fruit, tucked into the heather at the base of the Paps of Anu, scattered outside a stone circle built to point to the stars. In the day I gathered and at night, around the fire, I picked out the bits of moss and bramble, and I twined. Creating cordage from the very places that fed me, and set me free in heart and mind.

At the end I had one long, thin white rope with which to wrap myself when I got back home. So I could remember, even as I fell back into my daily rhythms, to still give myself space and time to pasture. To put down the to-dos, sometimes, and just putter around in the creek. To go for a walk and drink a whole pot of tea and be content picking tufts of dreams from the hedgerow of my mind. Sometimes collecting them to twine. And sometimes just letting them go, floating onwards like a wish already fulfilled.

One Willow Apothecaries Big hugs to you my fellow woolgatherer!

Prana, Tejas and Ojas

Basic expressions of Prana,Tejas and Ojas. Extract from the book Yoga and Ayurveda by David Frawley:
🔼 OJAS, expressed as physical and mental endurance, strength, insulation, immunity, fertility, patience, and equilibrium. — Primal Vigor: the subtle energy of water as the stored up vital reserve, the basis for physical and mental endurance; the internalized essence of digested food, water, air, impressions and thought. On an inner level, it is responsible for nourishing and grounding the development of all higher faculties. Ojas, as endurance and stamina, resembles primordial Yin, which is the essence of water.
🔼 TEJAS, expressed as conviction, valor, courage, daring, intellect, creative vision, and a melting tenderness that draws all hearts. It is an internal fire fueled by Ojas. — Inner Radiance: the subtle energy of fire as the radiance of vitality through which we digest air, impressions and thoughts. On an inner level, it governs the unfoldment of all higher perceptual capacities. Tejas as the power of will and vigor resembles original Yang, which is the primal fire.
🔼 PRANA, expressed as spontaneous right action, presence, lightness of body, enthusiam, creative action, and ascension. — Intuitive Energy : the primal life-force, the subtle energy of air as the master force and guiding intelligence behind all psychophysical functions, responsible for coordination of breath, senses and mind. On an inner level, it governs the unfoldment and harmonization of all higher states of consciousness. Prana is like the primordial chi, which also relates to wind and spirit.

These three forces (ojas, tejas and prana) are interrelated. Prana and tejas are rooted in ojas and can be regarded as aspects of ojas. Tejas is the heat and light energy of ojas that has an oily quality and, like ghee can sustain a flame. Prana is the energy and strength that comes from ojas after it has been kindled into tejas. Ojas proper is the potential, the stamina of the mind and nervous system for holding tejas and prana. Ojas has the capacity to turn into tejas (heat), which has the capacity to turn into prana (electricity).

IMMUNE SYSTEM
Prana, tejas and ojas give energy to the immune system. Ojas is the basic capacity of the immune system, our potential to defend ourselves against external pathogens. It provides endurance, resistance and strength to ward off diseases. Tejas is the immune system which is able to burn and destroy toxins when activated. It generates the fever that the body produces to destroy the pathogens which attack it. Tejas is our ability to overcome acute diseases, which are generally infectious in nature. Tejas is ojas converted into heat, warmth and vitality. It is our ability to mobilize our immune systems forces.
Prana is the long-term activation of the immune function to project and develop life-energy which manifests when we are dealing with a chronic disease. It is the adaptability of the immune system and sustains all long-term healing processes. With sufficient prana, tejas and ojas, no disease can approach us. Increasing prana, tejas and ojas helps all low immune conditions.

Ojas -The sap of life, vigor, vitality, radiant health & luster
Tejas -The Spark of Radiance, Warmth, Glow & Brilliance
Prana -The Quanta of our Vitality & Energy

What is Tejas?
Tejas is responsible for inner radiance, glow or aura, luster in one’s eyes, clarity, fearlessness, courage, intelligence, and understanding and comprehension at the cellular level.  It is the subtle and positive essence or counterpart of pitta or fire element in the body and is responsible for the digestion and metabolism of everything we take in. Tejas can be compared to hormones and amino acids that regulate cellular metabolism.
Hence tejas is needed for metabolism. If tejas in a person is too high it burns out the ojas (just as fire evaporates water), as in the case with multiple sclerosis. The myelin sheaths which are composed of ojas (water element) are burned by high tejas (fire element).
Negative thinking, excessive talking, and emotional imbalances diminish tejas. This, in turn, damages the spleen, thymus, lymphatic, and immune system. The thymus gland is located very close to the heart which is the seat of emotions. Hence any negative emotional disturbance will affect the thymus. Gently tapping the sternum stimulates the thymus gland which in turn stimulates the immune system.

Tejas gets diminished by:
  • Excessive talking
  • Psychological /emotional imbalances
  • Negative thinking
For a healthy balance of tejas one should:
  • Enforce positive thinking.  Positive thinking strengthens ojas, tejas and prana and the thymus gland, which is responsible for a healthy  immune system and good health.
  • Meditate
  • Chant mantras
  • Try sitting in the meditation position, in a lotus pose as that helps open up the heart chakra, calms the breath and balances ojas, tejas and prana.
  • Practice awareness in thought, words and action
  • Avoid gossip, excessive talking, negative talk etc.
Ghee
Ghee in moderation helps increase ojas

Tantric Yoga and the Wisdom Goddesses: Spiritual Secrets of Ayurveda

According to the Charaka Samhita, a primary ayurvedic text, “When ojas is diminished the person is fearful, weak, and always worried; has disorders in the sense organs, and deranged luster and mental ability; and is rough and emaciated.”

🌎 The Kapha Dosha 💧

#lovewarriors #spiritualwarrior

Some systems, like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), however, employ five elements: Metal, Wood, Fire, Water and Earth. Metal corresponds to Ether (Akasha) of the Ayurvedic elements and Wood to Air (Vayu) in the Ayurvedic system, just as Vata, Pitta and Kapha connect at a more cosmic level in their forms as Prana (life-force), Tejas (radiance and light) and Ojas (vitality) to the TCM concepts of Qi (Vata / Prana), Yang (Pitta / Tejas)  and Yin (Kapha / Ojas) respectively.

According to David Frawley’s book, Yoga and Ayurveda, David Frawley –
“These three forces (ojas, tejas and prana) are interrelated. Prana and tejas are rooted in ojas and can be regarded as aspects of ojas. Tejas is the heat and light energy of ojas that has an oily quality and, like ghee can sustain a flame. Prana is the energy and strength that comes from ojas after it has been kindled into tejas. Ojas has the capacity to turn into tejas (heat), which has the capacity to turn into prana (electricity).” https://yachnayoga.wordpress.com/yoga-asans/ojas-tejas-and-prana/

Negative thinking damages ojas, tejas, prana, immune system, the spleen, the function of the lymphatic system.
For a depleted tejas one should consume:
  • 1 pinch of trikatu which is -ginger, black pepper, piper longum with 1 tsp of honey 15 minutes before eating a meal as it kindles the agni (metabolism/digestive fire).
  • Chewing a small piece of ginger with some lemon juice and salt sprinkled on it can help build tejas.
  • Bitter ghee is good for increasing tejas without increasing pitta.1 tsp morning and evening on an empty stomach with ½ cup warm water.

NOTE: People who suffer from excessive pitta or heat in the body should not consume the above.  Excessive pitta is marked by heat in the body, inflammation, boils, acne, ulcers, heartburn, indigestion, and negative emotions like anger, jealousy, anxiety, aggression, impatience, hate etc.  Instead one should avoid consuming foods that are inherently and temperature hot as they further aggravate pitta.  Hence avoid spicy, pungent foods, peppers, garlic, onions, sesame, coffee, tea etc.  Consuming foods and herbs that are cooling and sweet (not sugary, but inherently sweet like rice, wheat etc), will help bring pitta back to a healthy balance. Chewing on fennel seeds, cardamoms, etc sipping warm herbal teas helps calm pitta.

I've been (and still am) introspective, my cauldron-head double bubbling for that Full Moon hangover we all have 🌕🌿

SWADHISTANA CHAKRA - The seat of your creativity. 'Sva' meaning Self and 'adhistana' meaning dwelling place.

The water element of this chakra, located in the sacral area, gives us the ability to be flexible, to flow and to be open to change.

When a person has a balanced sense of self this is reflected in their ability to be creative, to feel pleasure and joy, to control morality as well as to manifest personal dreams, fantasies and emotions in a natural and healthy way. Emotions if guilt and shame can be stored in this area.

The colours orange and coral assist to balance emotions whilst maintaining enthusiasm for life.
